The purpose of our website:
To share our family life with you as we encourage you to share your life with us!

*We have experienced major emotional pain in the last 3 years; the breaking of our family (divorce) as we knew it for almost 27 years. It has not been easy to let go! It has not been easy to deal with the "darkness" that caused it. I, Harold, am largely responsible for what happened and I have assumed full responsibility for the tragedy. The circumstances I faced at the time of the crisis, drove me to deal with my own selfishness and wrong doing.

I chose to go to God in the midst of it all and explore my next level of growth!

I asked Him for forgiveness and strength to deal with my own life and the consequences of what happened.

It was dark, but looking back I see that the decision I made the first night, when I was alone at home with my daughter Heidi, was the BEST decision I have ever made. It was like a seed that has grown stronger every day! Following the tragedy, I wrote a letter to my family saying that somehow I believed then, that "the best for our family was yet to come." I had no idea how it was going to happen. It was a "faith" statement! God has been magnificent to me and my kids! I haven't seen anything  but the fulfillment of that dream every single day in spite of the dark moments.

My four kids, Halcyon, Roldy, Heidi and Hansel were innocent. They did not deserve what they got. They hurt and cried, but held true to their highest values. I admire them beyond words! Not once, I heard them victimizing themselves or using the tragedy to their advantage. They chose to keep our family together like true champions and we are stronger than ever! They are unbelievable kids! What I thought them about loyalty and sticking together they practiced as we faced the storm together! Amazing!

I chose to open the book of my life to them, to God, and to a close circle of friends. In them, I found forgiveness and grace. I owe my ongoing recovery to them.

We wrote our family PURPOSE over 6 years ago, way before the tragedy. It is still ALL true...

This is what we wrote over 6 years ago (2003):

We are really like every family
. We are happy one moment and experience wierd moods and tensions at other times.
Some days we feel like getting up and conquering the world; some other days we feel like staying in bed forever!!! Fortunately, we don't all experience the same moods at the same time! :-) We are not perfect at all.

The one thing that keeps us together as a family is our relationship with God and our commitment to supporting each other.

We believe in God, though we are not too religious. We attended Saddleback Church in Lake Forest for 9 years not knowing that God was preparing the 5 of us for the family crisis that faced us 3 years ago. Pastor Rick Warren (author of the "Purpose Driven Life") and his team were a tremendous blessing to us as we listened to their messages from week to week. Thank you!

OUR FAMILY PURPOSE

  • TO HAVE A PERSONAL, DYNAMIC, RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD that will empower our potential for the great things He has in store for us.
  • TO LOVE PEOPLE (Each other as a family, our friends, people around us) by forgiving, helping each other grow, serving and helping them fulfill their God given potential and purpose in this life. (Matthew 22:37-40- John 13: 34,35-"The Message")-LOVE is the only commandment that matters to God!
  • TO HAVE FUN by enjoying the moment and the good things of this world.  True happiness and joy is a choice not a destination! God will ask us someday why we didn't have more fun in this life with all the good stuff he gave us!  He must smile at times, watching us trying so hard to achieve what we thing we need and want!
  • TO GROW by dealing with the issues that come our way; by building character, discipline, gratitude, and a good attitude.  Bad things have happened, and will continue to happen to us as a family! It's not all fun and smiles. We just don't take pictures when we are feeling rotten... But then, God has also blessed us in incredible ways for over 30 years!!!
  • TO SERVE PEOPLE WITH OUR TALENTS, ABILITIES AND RESOURCES-To continously remind ourselves that this life is not about US, but God and People.
,

Why do we have a purpose?

Because we believe there is a next life, and we are going there together!
Our time on this earth is "dress rehearsal" for eternity!
We'll spend more time together on the other side of this life than on this earth.

***

Our biggest challenge? To be "ourselves" regardless of what people think of us. To remember that no matter what "it's not about me!" (Thank you, Pastor Rick!) We are learning that God is in charge of our reputation.

We are not too complicated.
God has been very good to us through very difficult times and we do what we do out of love, passion and enthusiasm.

We confess that in spite of our stated purpose and best intentions, we often find ourselves failing and having to apologize because we hurt others in our stupid and selfish moments.

Thank you for visiting our website and mentally joining us in our journey!

This song, "Immanuel" (Michael Card) sang by the Campus Hill Church Children Choir in London, England,  best describes our journey with God in the last 3 years... God is with us! Be blessed by the words of this song!
